The Churchill Building rose nine stories above Carroll Street when Madison was still deciding what kind of city it would become. Beaux-Arts to its bones, it was the first building here to reach for the skyline, and it has watched the Capitol Square change for over a century. The Historian Hotel brings it back, restoring the facade, the interior staircases and the original mosaic tilework, giving the building a second life as a place to stay rather than a place to pass by.

We are right in the heart of it. The Historian Hotel is located directly in downtown Madison on the historic Capitol Square (16 N. Carroll Street), offering immediate access to the city's best dining, shopping, and entertainment.

Will The Historian Hotel offer complimentary airport shuttle?
We do not operate a private airport shuttle, but getting here is seamless. The Dane County Regional Airport (MSN) is a convenient 5-mile drive from our downtown location. Taxis, rideshare services (Uber/Lyft), and local transit options are readily available at the terminal to bring you straight to Capitol Square.
